Exclusive: The Chainsmokers Take the World by ‘#SELFIE’ Storm and Talk 2015

(Trevor Pittinger) DJ duo Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, better known as the The Chainsmokers, won’t give you just one drag, they’re prepared to give you the whole pack.
Having recently skyrocketed to success on their fire-powered engine of a song, “#SELFIE,” the duo stopped by in person to tell PressRoomVIP that they have no plans on stopping their seriously steep upward climb any time soon.

The two met during their college years (both attended prestigious universities in the Northeast) and first gained notoriety by producing remixes of hot indie hits and songs from other, bigger artists like Ellie Goulding, The Wanted, and Icona Pop.

After gaining a cult following in the EDM/electronica scene, the duo finally released their first big single in December of 2013, titled “#SELFIE.” It wasn’t long before they got snatched up by a record label and exploded all over this year’s summer music festival scene.

But what makes these boys so hot?

It could be their handsome fratboy looks, or maybe it’s their self-aware ‘I don’t give a f*ck’ millennial persona, or perhaps even the sense of humor that they’re able to bring to a style of music that already makes you want to jump off the walls.

Whatever it is, these boys know how to put on a good show and give you a good time– and they’re impeccable at knowing exactly what song the world is looking for.

They stick to the trends, while making sure each hit shows their own personal flair. “Our songs are very much us. And we’re kind of all over the place,” said the duo.

Their latest release, “Kanye,” came out last month, and it both celebrates and pokes fun at the rapper’s God complex.

The song falls thematically into a similar category as Lorde’s “Royals,” questioning the gap that separates normals from the lives of the rich and famous. Do we all really want to be famous? Is it worth it? Maybe not, but it’s sure as hell fun to consider.

We look forward to your next track Chainsmokers, and we hope to see a full-length album in the mix soon.

So go ahead and keep your eyes on the lookout for these two in the coming year, but you probably won’t have to try too hard– they’ll already be all over the place.
